Britney Spears’ love life is grabbing the headlines once more.
According to widespread reports in the US, the Grammy-winning pop icon may have found a new man since splitting up with actor Sam Asghari, who last month filed for divorce following 14 months of marriage.
Who is the fellow rumoured to be Spears’ new beau? Paul Richard Soliz, a Mexican ex-con with a sizeable rap sheet.
The pair have reportedly been spending a lot of time in each other’s company in recent weeks - but, as the celebrity-gossip mag Page Six reveals, his criminal past is making people within the singer’s close circle nervous about her relationship with him.
How did Spears meet Soliz?
Per Page Six, Spears and Soliz met when she hired him in a housekeeping role at her mansion in Los Angeles. They have become as good as inseparable since then, reports say, and have been photographed out and about together in LA.
What is Soliz’s criminal history?
Soliz first fell foul of the law in 2004, when he was arrested for possessing and selling drugs. That led to a four-year prison sentence. In 2019, he was then detained for breaching the peace, and was placed on probation for three years.
Soliz’s third run-in with the police came in 2020, for illegal firearms possession, leading to a three-month stay in prison early in 2023.
“I have a criminal record - I get it”
“I’m not a bad dude,” he told the entertainment magazine Us Weekly this month. “I understand that things have been said about me in the past, and I have a criminal record - I get it. I’m a working man. I own my own business.”
Asked about Spears, Soliz said: “She’s a phenomenal woman. She’s a very, very good, positive… She’s a good person.”
