Who will replace Yoshi Barrigas as Philip in Season 4 of ‘The Chosen’?

As fans will be very aware, Yoshi Barrigas, who played Philip in seasons two and three of ‘The Chosen’ is leaving the show, and, as these things go, no sooner were the tears wiped from faces than people were closing analyzing behind-the-scenes footage in an attempt to ascertain who the new Philip might be. We take a look at what’s going on...

Barrigas says goodbye to The Chosen

It all began with a spattering of speculation that Barrigas may not appear in the fourth season due to his absence in the filming footage of the disciples released by Dallas Jenkins. Barrigas then confirmed the news by posting a message on social media announcing his departure from the show.

He didn’t give a clear reason for leaving, though he did attribute the decision to both personal and professional reasons, while he also asked everyone to welcome in the new Philip. It read as follows:

Hello. It is true. For professional and personal reasons I will no longer be a part of The Chosen. First and foremost I want to thank you, the fans. Our connection and your constant showering of love and support has seeded me with a warmth that will forever nourish me. Meeting you out in the world and hearing how the show has personally enriched your lives continues to be the connective tissue between me and the good folk of this world. You inspire me to continue to die to self and discover The Way. I hope you continue to follow my journey. I have a lot more to share with you. I could not have gotten to where I am now without you, and without The Chosen. I want to thank Dallas and Amanda for changing my life and entrusting me in the role of Philip. I physically see and feel the impact Dallas’s baby has had on humanity when you all approach me and share your stories. It is so positively overwhelming. I learned how a set operates. I learned the infinite depths of my craft and the many ways to approach it. And most importantly, the show operated as a vessel for God to demand that I begin to know him. To praise him. To enjoy him! My studies of scripture have and continue to chip away at all my excess marble. Finally I want to thank the incredible crew. It was an absolute honor to be a part of your family. I learned so much from watching your passionate work, and was spoiled by the kindness you managed to radiate whilst focused on the task at hand.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to each and every one of you. I will continue to be a fan and supporter of The Chosen. Let’s all welcome and support the new Philip, who has an exciting opportunity to bring himself to the character. I’m happy for him and the journey he is about to undertake.

Who is ‘The Chosen’ one for Philip?

With fans of the show eager to find out who will play the new Philip -- despite taking into account the fact that the disciple may be out of the main scenes anyway due to likely being away burying John the Baptist -- hints at who the new actor will be have been jumped on.

Jenkins has already revealed that the fourth season would follow the storyline of John the Baptist, who according to the gospels, is to be beheaded in King Herod’s court. And then news came of the formal announcement.

Speculation on the new actor to play Phillip

The behind-the-scenes footage has given several hints, with several photos indicating action with the new Philip. There is a picture of the set where an unknown actor stands behind Jesus and beside Judas, wearing Philip’s signature orange headband, as Next Season pointed out. The same publication noted that the actors who play Jesus, Simon, and Atticus were photographed in together with the actor in question.

Dallas Jenkins later shared a clip from Day 27 of filming season four, which portrays Jesus in a scene with all of the disciples following behind him. All the disciples introduced so far are present — plus the actor who is likely the new Philip.

The possible new Philip wears the same orange headband, and with his clothing seen more clearly in this shot, he seems to be wearing a similar style to what Yoshi Barrigas wore in seasons two and three.

When will ‘The Chosen’ season four be released?

While the first three seasons of ‘The Chosen’ are available to watch for free on Angel Studio’s website, most fans are ready and waiting for season four.

Expectations are that it will be released at some point in 2024, with production having started in March 2023.
