Why did JOP get arrested?

Excess alcohol, disorderly conduct, and apparent weapons charges. The LA debut of ‘Fuerza Regida’ was a night like no other and by all accounts, it was a good one.

To the sounds and scenes of fireworks and constant standing ovations, Mexican banda Fuerza Regida made its debut at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles in front of thousands of fans. Unfortunately for the band, their night would end with an arrest. The question is why?

‘Fuerza Regida’ lit up Los Angeles

“This isn’t a concert, but a drunken party.” Those were the words repeated throughout the night by lead singer, Jesús Ortiz Paz, better known as JOP. With his band ‘Fuerza Regida’ performing in front of a sold-out crowd in the home of Major League Soccer’s LAFC, it’s got to be said that his statement was an accurate description of the night. As beer and tequila flowed freely, security for the event was on the move constantly as they flitted between breaking up fights - there were a few - and escorting both men and women out of the arena for disorderly conduct.

As for the band itself, they performed for approximately two and a half hours and performed hits such as “Radicamos en South Central,” “Sigo chambeando,” “Igualito a mi apá,” “En la radio hay un cochinero,” “Sabor fresa,” “Dijeron que no la iba a lograr” (a duet with Chino Pacas), “TQM,” “Ch y la pizza,” “El muchacho alegre,” “Mi gusto es,” “Bebe dame,” “Desvelado” and many more. Frankly, the event was the perfect follow up to last weekend’s sold-out show in Dallas which kicked off the band’s “Otra Peda 2023″ tour. Sadly, despite the festivities, the night definitely took a sinister turn once the curtain came down, with the band being detained by police.

So, why were members of ‘Fuerza Regida’ arrested?

According to reports, JOP, Chino Pacas, and members of the Calle 24 band were handcuffed and detained on a weapons charge in an incident that occurred after the concert and was captured on video as seen on social media. It is understood that LAPD officers were trying to control traffic between Hawthorn and La Brea avenues in Hollywood during the early-morning hours of Sunday, when they observed an individual with a gun in one of the cars they’d stopped, at which point officers drew their weapons. Incidentally, Chino Pacas also uploaded a video to his Instagram account which appears to show him being handcuffed while being pushed against a police car. The band’s legal representation has since confirmed that while the group was detained, they were released two hours later with no charges pressed against them.
