Will the 2023 Tony Awards be televised?
The ceremony was nearly cancelled due to the writers’ striker, but fans will once again be able to celebrate the best achievements in TV.
The ongoing writers’ strike nearly forced the cancelation of this year’s Tony Awards but last month’s waiver ensured that the awards show will go ahead. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) confirmed in a statement that they will support the ceremony.
“As they have stood by us, we stand with our fellow workers on Broadway who are impacted by our strike,” the WGA announced.
“Tony Awards Productions (a joint venture of the Broadway League and the American Theater Wing) has communicated with us that they are altering this year’s show to conform with specific requests from the WGA, and therefore the WGA will not be picketing the show.”
The 76th annual Tony Awards will take place on 11 June and will be televised.
How to watch the 2023 Tony Awards
The show will take the form of a three-hour awards ceremony featuring some of the biggest names in television.
The 2023 Tony Awards will be broadcast live in the United States on CBS from 8pm (ET) and streamed simultaneously on Paramount+ for the service’s premium-level subscribers. You can also watch the ceremony through other streaming services that offer a CBS affiliate, such as FuboTV, Hulu+ Live TV, YouTube TV.

After the show the full broadcast will be available to view on demand for all Paramount+ members. However the main ceremony will be unscripted, meaning that there will be no tightly crafted jokes or big closing numbers to look forward to this year.
This year’s ceremony, like last year, will begin with the Act One pre-show, hosted by Julianna Hough and Skylar Astin. This will be available to watch for free on streaming platform Pluto TV. The pre-show kicks off at 6:30pm (ET) and will last 90 minutes.
