Are post offices open and will mail be delivered on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day?
The United States Postal Service runs a reduced service over NYE. There will be two days without regular deliveries or mail collections this year.

We are now in that strange stretch between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day where dates become meaningless, time warps, and no one has any idea what day of the week it is.
This annual state of confusion affects us all, but can be frustrating if you’re trying to get things done. One area where mix-ups can easily occur is in the USPS working dates around New Year’s Eve.
This year both Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Sundays, when USPS and Post Office locations would normally be closed anyway. This means that the NYD holiday is shifted one day later, meaning that no post will be delivered on Monday 26 December or Tuesday 1 January.
Both USPS mail delivery and the regular Post Office opening hours will resume on the Tuesday after each holiday. Here’s a full breakdown of USPS working dates around New Year 2023…
Saturday, 31 December – New Year’s Eve
Local Post Offices will be open, but opening hours may be altered slightly – check your local Post Office for NYE hours
Blue Collection Boxes will be collected, but possibly earlier than normal. USPS advise that you drop off mail before noon
Mail deliveries will continue as normal
