Bank of America to close all branches on July 3: here’s why

Like most financial institutions, Bank of America follows the Federal Reserve’s holiday schedule. Because the Federal Reserve closes for all 11 official federal holidays, banks also suspend many in-person services and close their branches.

Although Independence Day is celebrated on July 4 each year, banks will close on Friday, July 3, because the holiday falls on a Saturday in 2026. Under federal holiday observance rules, when a holiday falls on a Saturday, it is officially observed on the preceding Friday.

Which banks are closed on July 3?

In addition to Bank of America, the following banks will also close their branches on Friday, July 3:

  • Wells Fargo
  • JPMorgan Chase
  • Goldman Sachs
  • Chase
  • Citibank
  • U.S. Bank
  • SunTrust Bank
  • Capital One
  • Citizens Bank
  • Santander Bank
  • BBVA
  • Compass

Many other national and regional banks will also be closed. Customers are encouraged to check with their local branch ahead of time if they need to complete any in-person banking transactions.

While most bank branches will be closed, customers will still be able to access online banking, mobile banking, and ATMs.

Most everyday banking tasks can still be completed electronically. However, customers should keep in mind that payments or transfers scheduled on a federal holiday may not begin processing until the next business day.

Bank branches will reopen on Monday, July 6, since July 4 and July 5 fall on Saturday and Sunday, when most banks are typically closed.

Bank of America will also close on these dates

  • Labor Day: September 7
  • Columbus Day: October 12
  • Veterans Day: November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day: November 26
  • Christmas Day: December 25
