Celebrities protest against ICE on the red carpet at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards
Some stars sported pins with phrases like “BE GOOD” and “ICE OUT” as they walked and gave interviews on the red carpet.

After an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a Minneapolis resident, several celebrities used the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet to stage a public protest.
Actors Mark Ruffalo, Jean Smart, Wanda Sykes, and Natasha Lyonne arrived wearing pins that read “BE GOOD” and “ICE OUT.” “We need to speak up and put an end to this corrupt government. What they’re doing to people is horrific,” Sykes told Variety during the red carpet broadcast, which aired Wednesday evening in Eastern Time.

What happened in Minneapolis?
On Wednesday, an ICE agent opened fire on a woman later identified as Renee Nicole Good. Good was parked in the middle of an icy road. Video from the scene shows an agent ordering Good to step out of her vehicle while attempting to open the driver’s door. The SUV first reverses, then drives off. At that moment, another agent standing near the front of the vehicle draws his gun and fires. Three shots can be heard before the vehicle crashes seconds later.
Federal officials have defended the ICE agent’s actions, claiming the shooting was an act of self‑defense. During a press conference, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Good ignored commands to exit her car and attempted to run over an ICE agent in what she described as an “attempt to kill or cause serious bodily harm.” Noem also referred to Good as a “terrorist.”

Who was Renee Nicole Good?
It is believed that Good lived in Minneapolis with her partner. “Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. She was incredibly compassionate. She spent her whole life caring for others. She was loving, understanding, and warm. She was an amazing human being,” her mother told the Minnesota Star Tribune. The newspaper also reported that Good was the mother of a 6‑year‑old and had two older children.
Good had previously been married to Timmy Ray Macklin Jr., who died in 2023 at age 36. According to the Associated Press, Macklin was her second husband and the father of her youngest child. She also had a 12‑year‑old son and a 15‑year‑old daughter from her first marriage.
Her ex‑husband told reporters that Good had worked as a dental assistant and later at a credit union before becoming a stay‑at‑home parent in recent years. In 2020, she graduated from Old Dominion University with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature.
