Longevity is one of life’s most sought-after goals. Achieving it requires a healthy lifestyle built on consistent routines, smart habits, and prevention, along with the ability to reduce the risk of problems, infections, or diseases that can significantly affect overall health.

Why nighttime habits matter for long-term health

In this context, Diego Suárez, a longevity expert and content creator, has posted a TikTok video explaining the damage that can be caused simply by sleeping at night with a phone next to the bed. In the video, a woman asks him directly, “How does sleeping with your phone beside the bed affect a person?”

“Much more than you might imagine,” Suárez replies. “More than 25% of people exposed to wireless signals at night develop severe sleep disorders.”

He then explains what the body actually needs once we close our eyes. “Your body needs darkness, silence, and the absence of radiation in order to repair itself,” he says.

What happens to your brain when your phone is nearby

According to Suárez, keeping a phone close while sleeping disrupts several key biological processes. “When you sleep with your phone next to you, your brain waves are altered, your melatonin levels drop sharply, and your brain stops regenerating,” he explains.

He ends the video with a clear piece of advice for his followers. “Leave your phone outside the bedroom,” Suárez says. “And if you’re worried about not waking up, use a natural light alarm clock.”

How viewers reacted on TikTok

The video has quickly gone viral, racking up more than 300,000 views, over 6,000 likes, and around 80 comments in just a few weeks. Many users jumped in to share their own habits, questions, and concerns about how they sleep.

“I fall asleep like a baby watching my phone every night,” one user wrote. Others asked practical questions such as, “What if I put my phone in airplane mode?” and “Does it help if I turn off Wi-Fi?” Another comment read, “My husband sleeps with headphones on and the phone turned on.”
