Some Social Security recipients in the United States have now received their payments for February 2025, but many beneficiaries are yet to get their money this month - and will have to wait a while longer before they do.

According to the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) payment schedule, a batch of checks went out today, Monday February 3, but there are to be no more payouts this week. Americans can now expect a nine-day gap before the SSA issues this month’s next round of Social Security money.

Which Social Security checks have already gone out in February 2025?

Today’s payments went out to Social Security recipients who began receiving their checks before May 1997.

This batch of payments for long-term beneficiaries was the second set of Social Security checks to be paid for February, as Americans who are signed up to the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) scheme got their cash for the month ahead of schedule, on Friday, January 31.

SSI checks normally go out on the first of each month, but are sent early if that month begins on a weekend or holiday.

When do other Social Security recipients receive their money in February 2025?

Social Security recipients who aren’t pre-May 1997 beneficiaries or part of the SSI program will get their check on one of three Wednesdays in February 2025. These payments begin on the second Wednesday of the month, which is why no checks will be issued this Wednesday, February 5.

As part of a staggered schedule, in which a recipient’s payment date is determined by their birthday, checks will go out on the following days:

Wednesday, Feb. 12: Recipients born on 1st to 10th of month

Wednesday, Feb. 19: Recipients born on 11th to 20th of month

Wednesday, Feb. 26: Recipients born on 21st to 31st of month

Take a look at the Social Security Administration’s full payment schedule for February 2025 on the agency’s website.

Who receives Social Security money in the U.S.?

Social Security checks are paid to: retired workers; disabled workers who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI); surviving family members of deceased American workers; and SSI beneficiaries.

Retirement, disability and survivors’ benefits are contribution-based: the monthly amounts paid out depend on how much Social Security tax workers paid.

On the other hand, the SSI program - which is aimed at Americans who have little or no income and are over 65 or have a disability - is needs-based.

How much money do Social Security recipients get?

Retired workers, who as of December 2024 made up more than a third of the U.S.’s 76 million Social Security beneficiaries, receive an average of $1,976 a month. Disabled workers get an average monthly sum of $1,580, and survivors are paid an average of $1,832 a month.

The SSI scheme offers individual participants a top monthly check of $967.
