Club World Cup 2025

Donald Trump’s unfortunate question that made Juventus players uncomfortable at White House reception

The President of the United States received a visit from the Bianconeri club and made some jokes that didn’t land.

Update:

One of the most memorable images this Club World Cup will leave for Italian football took place this afternoon in the Oval Office of the White House. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, received a delegation from Juventus, comprising owner John Elkann, coach Massimiliano Allegri, CEO Maurizio Scanavino, general director Fabio Paratici, strategy director Fabio Chiellini, and players Weston McKennie, Timothy Weah, Manuel Locatelli, Federico Gatti, Teun Koopmeiners, and Dusan Vlahovic.

The Italians, accompanied by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, presented Trump with a black-and-white Juventus jersey with the number 47, just hours before their World Cup debut against Al-Ain, scheduled for 3 a.m. this Thursday.

The president’s ‘’joke’ falls flat

Additionally, the president asked Infantino about the presence of fans in the stands at Washington’s Audi Field (‘It’s sold out, right?’), and caused an awkward moment among the players when, looking at them one by one, he asked: “Have you ever had a woman play on your men’s team? Tell me!

When General Director Comolli replied that Juve already has a women’s team—and a very good one at that—Trump responded: “Of course, and I imagine you wouldn’t let them play with you! Well, I see you’re being diplomatic...”

Trump also took questions on his plans to attack Iran

The scene quickly went viral due to the press conference Trump held minutes later, while the Juventus delegation was still in his office. The U.S. President began speaking about the serious crisis with Iran and nuclear bombs, while the players stood behind him listening to his statements: “I haven’t yet decided whether we will attack Iran. A regime change could happen, we’ll see.”
