A magnitude 4.8 earthquake has shaken New York City on Friday morning. There is an alert system you can sign up for to receive earthquake notifications.
An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale shook the New York City metropolitan area on Friday morning, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicenter was reported to be located 20 miles west of North Plainfield in New Jersey, with a depth of 5 km. The New York Fire Department has stated that there were no initial reports of damage.
Mayor Adams along with other officials gave a speech just after noon about the earthquake. He said New York residents should go about their normal day.

The default setting for new accounts sends notifications to users regarding earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.0 or greater. You may change the settings according to your needs.
You can sign up for the Earthquake Notification Service and receive emails or text messages about tremors as the locations are published. You can specify your own geographic area and magnitude threshold.
