On Wednesday, August 28, four earthquakes shook El Salvador in less than an hour. The first occurred at 3:57 p.m. local time, while the second occurred 15 minutes later, the third at 4:14 p.m. and the last about 20 minutes later.
According to El Salvador’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN), the epicenter of the four earthquakes was located off the coast of La Libertad, about 43 miles south of Playa Mizata. The depth varied between 8 and 15 miles.
MARN also reported that the first quake had a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale; the second was 4.2 and the third, 4.6. Later, the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Fernando López, reported a fourth quake of 3.9, with a depth of 9 miles.
No damage reported after earthquakes in El Salvador
Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele reported that no material damage has been reported. “There are no personal or material damages reported so far. Electricity, telephone, internet, everything is working normally. Thank God,” he shared on his X profile, formerly Twitter.
