Elon Musk has announced that he is stepping down as CEO of Twitter, and that he will be taking on other responsibilities in the social media platform. He also said he has chosen someone to replace him in six weeks.

“Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops,” he wrote in a Tweet on Thursday.

The billionaire did not name his successor, although from his announcement, it appeared that the new Twitter chief would be a woman.

The Wall Street Journal later announced in an exclusive report that NBCUniversal executive Linda Yaccarino is in talks to become the company’s new CEO, according to their sources.

Who is Linda Yaccardino, reported replacement of Elon Musk as Twitter CEO?

Yaccarino chairs global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal, responsible for this aspect of the company across all of its businesses including broadcast, cable, digital, and theme parks.

She has been with NBCU for over a decade and has held various leadership positions within the organization. Yaccarino played a major role in launching the company’s ad-supported streaming service, Peacock.

Musk bought Twitter in October and has been running it since that time. He had repeatedly said that he was not to be Twitter’s permanent CEO.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” he wrote in a tweet in December.

If Yaccarino is named Musk’s successor, her expertise in running a multi-billion-dollar advertising business would be useful in helping persuade companies to once again spend their advertising dollars on Twitter.
