Update:

With the arrival of Easter, many Americans take advantage of the time off to travel to different parts of the U.S. and enjoy a short vacation. While many of these trips are made by car, a significant number, including international getaways, are taken by plane.

Air traffic increases during this season. A clear sign of this is the spike in prices, which rise significantly due to the high demand during holiday periods. However, this doesn’t stop many people from flying over Easter.

And in this context, the question always comes up: What’s the best seat to choose on a plane? When booking a flight, most travelers opt for front-row seats or those located near the emergency exits.

Some also prefer XL seats, which many airlines place toward the front. As a result, the back seats are often left empty, even though they’re actually the best. Why?

First of all, they’re the safest. Time magazine analyzed plane crashes from the past 35 years and concluded that the seats located at the rear of the aircraft are the safest, with a 32% fatality rate. In comparison, seats at the front and middle sections had fatality rates of 38% and 39%, respectively.

Additionally, on many planes, the rear section also has its own exit, so passengers don’t have to wait in line to disembark ahead of others. Plus, with no one seated behind, the ride is quieter, and in some cases, food and drinks are served first in those seats.
