The Social Security Administration (SSA) is responsible for sending monthly benefits to retired workers, survivors, and disability payments from Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) as well as those for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.

In 2023, the federal SSI benefit has been $914 for an individual beneficiary and $1,371 for a couple where both receive benefits. However, some states supplement monthly SSI benefits with additional payments.

According to the SSA website, there are 33 states that provide supplemental benefits to those who receive monthly federal payments from the SSI program. The extra amounts sent depend on each state.

These extra payments are administered by the states, as well as the Social Security Administration (SSA).

When are extra Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments sent?

According to the Social Security Administration (SSA), supplemental payments are sent out around the same time as federal SSI payments.

According to the SSA schedule, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are sent on the first day of each month. If the first day of the month falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the payment is advanced to the last Friday of the previous month. If it falls on a holiday, it is brought forward to the first previous business day.

In 2023, for example, Friday 1 December is the scheduled date to send payments to SSI beneficiaries. On the other hand, on Friday 29 December the SSI payment corresponding to 1 January 2024 is sent. Here is the complete schedule of SSI payments for next year.
