A major traffic accident in Marion County, Florida, claimed the lives of eight and left an additional eight injured on Tuesday morning. Details of the accident are still being uncovered, but the devastation has already begun as authorities begin to inform the families of those lost in the crash. The accident occurred on State Road 40, and authorities have closed the road between Ocala and Dunnellon. The accident happened at 6:35 a.m. The roads remain closed, and drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.

Details are trickling in, with authorities reporting that the bus side-swiped a Ford Range truck, leading it to veer off the road and crash into a fence. The cause of the collision is still unknown.

The passengers onboard

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the accident. The agency said that the bus involved had fifty-three passengers onboard, many of whom were migrant workers being driven to a watermelon farm. A school bus was brought into the area to transport those on the bus to the hospital to be evaluated.
