International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8. And in New York City, there are plenty of ways to show your support for women. From art exhibits to comedy shows to historical walking tours, there’s no shortage of opportunities to learn about empowering women and show up for women in the city.

Events in NYC to celebrate Women’s Day 2025

Walking Tour: Historic Women of Central Park

This event doesn’t fall on Women’s Day, but is still an excellent way to learn about some of America’s trailblazers like Susan B. Anthony and Soujourner Truth. The free, hour-long walking tour will take place on Saturday, March 15 and will leave from East 60th and Fifth Avenue. The Urban Park Rangers will lead guests through the park to the side honoring these incredible women.

The Future is Female at The Met

On Saturday, March 8 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, pianist Sarah Cahill will be presenting her ongoing curation project titled “The Future is Female”, in which more than seventy musical compositions written by women from around the globe will be featured. Cahill is celebrating women’s contributions to classical music, a long-time male-dominated field, with music from 1687 to 2020.

The Knockouts Women’s Comedy Festival

If you’re in the mood for something more lighthearted, a bit of comedy should do the trick. The Knockouts Women’s Comedy Festival has been going on since March 3 and will continue through this Sunday, March 9 with more than 50 shows across 25 different venues in Manhatten and Brooklyn. The festival features all-female and non-binary comedians including Rachel Feinstein, Punkie Johnson, and Chanel Ali.s

A Superheroine Like No Other: Paley Celebrates 50 Years of Wonder Woman on Television

Wonder Woman has been on television screens since November 7, 1975. Since her debut 50 years ago, she’s become “a symbol of strength, courage, and feminism”. On Friday, March 14 at 4 p.m., the Paley Museum is celebrating Wonder Woman with curator Allison Kraft leading the conversation about her history and cultural impact.

Bad Bitch Brunch

On Saturday, March 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Stonewall Inn will hold a variety show featuring female and queer talent including drag performers, comedy, and music. There’s also an option to take part in the VIP portion of the event, including a series of interactive sex-positive activities.

“Real Clothes, Real Lives: 200 Years of What Women Wore”

The New York Historical will feature an exhibit of women’s influence via clothing. The exhibit will be on through June 22 and will explore the role that clothing plays in the lives of women and how they have defied societal expectations. Don’t expect to see traditional feminine ballgowns at this exhibit. Instead, you’ll see “psychedelic micro minis and modern suits” and much much more.

Women in Jazz All-Star Band

On Saturday, March 8, East End Jazz and LTV Studios present a special concert featuring an all-female lineup of female jazz composers and performers, including Lauren Kinhan, Olivia Foschi, Ada Rovatti, and more. The performance will “honor the contributions of female vocalists, composers, bandleaders, and instrumentalists... to inspire the next generation of female musicians”.

Meet the Moment at Brooklyn Museum

On Saturday, March 8, the Brooklyn Museum will host a summit called Meet the Moment, featuring influential women and nonbinary leaders who will speak on issues our country is facing today. Notable speakers include fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, actor Amber Tamblyn, author Tricia Hersey, Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, AI entrepreneurs Emma Bates and Erin Grau, and former director of the White House Gender Policy Council Jen Klein, plus many more.
