Full list of Democrats who voted to confirm Kristi Noem, Trump’s nominee
The Senate has approved President Trump’s decision to nominate the former South Dakota Governor as Secretary of Homeland Security.

President Donald Trump secured a major win on Saturday when Kristi Noem, a long-time ally, was confirmed by the Senate as his new Secretary of State for Homeland Security.
The 53-year-old had been the Governor of South Dakota since 2019. She was previously a state legislator in South Dakota and spent eight years in the House of Representatives in Washington DC.
The Department of Homeland Security has a wide-ranging scope, covering departments like US Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the US Secret Service.
Noem will be tasked with enacting Trump’s wildly ambitious immigration policies, a key cornerstone of his electoral success. The President began his second term in office by issuing executive actions that included declaring a national emergency at the nation’s southern border.
Which Democrats voted to confirm Kristi Noem?
Many of Trump’s cabinet picks have received significant backlash in the Senate, often from members of his own party. However Noem was passed with a comfortable 59-34 vote in the Upper House, even bringing seven Democratic members over to support the nomination.
Those Democrat supporters were Senator John Fetterman (Pa.), Senator Maggie Hassan (N.H.), Senator Tim Kaine (Va.), Senator Andy Kim (N.J.), Senator Gary Peters (Mich.), Senator Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.) and Senator Elisa Slotkin (Mich.).
Senator Peters was one of those who supported Noem and later explained that they were aligned on some of the most pressing issues facing the US. He is the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Homeland and Government Affairs Committee, meaning that he will likely work closely with her.
“Given her openness to working on a bipartisan basis to address these and other threats to our homeland security, I voted to advance her nomination out of committee and send it to the Senate floor for consideration,” Peters explained.
