Goodbye to men: Psychology clarifies age at which women don’t ‘need’ a man

Personal experiences, aspirations, desire for a family, and financial independence have changed the role of the traditional couple.

Update:

Beyond the battle of the sexes, beyond whether someone wants to be with someone else or how they choose to define their relationship, do men and women need each other? Biologically, the answer is clearly yes, especially when it comes to having a family.

From an anthropological perspective, considering customs, beliefs, adaptation, and the viability of different human populations, men and women are more necessary than ever. According to recent United Nations estimates, as of February 2025, the world population stands at approximately 8.197 billion people. Is it really necessary to keep increasing the global population when resources are becoming scarcer and problems more numerous?

What psychology says

The idea that women must depend on a male partner to fulfill their lives or reach their full potential is being increasingly challenged. Some perspectives suggest that at a certain point, whether at 26, 40, or even 60, women may reach a stage where they find their dream job or personal liberation, becoming completely independent and fulfilled both personally and emotionally. Without needing or wanting to be with anyone, let alone someone who might hold them back.

This turning point is often linked to financial independence and professional fulfillment. Being a financial provider is no longer a determining factor in whether a woman wants to be with a man.

And since life paths diverge with age, changing interests, career aspirations, and personal experiences, sharing life as a couple has become an increasing challenge, often clashing with a woman’s future: while her professional life advances, her personal life may slow down.

Of course, life is not just about work or money. For many, sharing life with a loving partner is a dream. Being in a relationship is a choice, some women neither want nor need a partner, yet still desire that connection and shared journey. Ultimately, it all comes down to personal experiences and how each individual envisions their future.
