Update:

In a remarkable turn of events, Daniella Hines, a 40-year-old mother from Riverview, Florida, delivered a baby boy who has become the talk of the town. On September 3, at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South, Daniella gave birth to Annan, who tipped the scales at an astonishing 13 pounds, 15 ounces - nearly double the average for a newborn, which hovers around 7 pounds.

The delivery was via C-section, and Daniella recalls feeling an unusual amount of pressure during labour: “I remember thinking, ‘What are they pulling out of me?’ What is going on here?’ I felt so much pressure,” Hines told TODAY.

“He was so big. I was like, ‘Whose baby is this? He came out of me?’" Hines added. “Then everybody starts coming in because it’s not every day you see an almost 14 pound baby pop out. He was like a little celebrity.”

“We didn’t expect such a big blessing”

“I can’t wait to show him when he gets older: ‘Look you were in the news!’” she quipped.

This isn’t Daniella’s first experience with larger-than-average babies. Her first son, Andre Jr., was born weighing 12 pounds, 11 ounces. Both Daniella and her husband, Andre Sr., stand over six feet tall, which they believe may contribute to their children’s impressive sizes. Additionally, Daniella had gestational diabetes during her pregnancy with Annan, a condition known to influence birth weight.

“We didn’t expect such a big blessing,” Hines said. “But it’s just more to love!”

The official record for the heaviest single baby ever born is held by Anna Haining Bates, who gave birth to a son weighing an astonishing 9.98 kilograms (22 pounds) on January 19, 1879, in Seville, Ohio, USA.
