Rather than heading off to party with his classmates, Mykale made an unexpected decision. Still wearing his cap, gown, and medals, he went straight to his shift at the Burger King where he works—treating the day like any other.

That’s when a customer named María Mendoza, whose daughter also graduated that day, noticed him. Moved by his dedication, she filmed the moment and shared it on TikTok, launching a crowdfunding campaign to support him.

“While many graduates spent the night celebrating with friends and family, one young man showed the world what determination really looks like,” she wrote.

The video quickly went viral, and Mykale’s story spread like wildfire. Thousands of people donated to the campaign, wanting to help him take the next big step in life.

Mykale is going to college

In the U.S., it’s common for many students to work while trying to afford higher education—and Mykale was no exception. But thanks to the outpouring of support through crowdfunding, he’s now received over $196,000, a life-changing amount that will more than cover his college tuition and expenses.

But that’s not all—his employer also recognized his commitment. As a reward for his work ethic, the Burger King Foundation awarded Mykale Baker a $10,000 scholarship to help support his academic journey.
