Social Security is sending out checks for $2,000 on ave. today, Wednesday, March 26: find out who’s getting a payment
The United States’ Social Security Administration is set to complete its March schedule of payments today.

Today, March 26, is a key date for some of the 52 million retired workers who receive Social Security benefits in the U.S. The same also goes for certain recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and survivor pay.
That’s because the Social Security Administration (SSA) is scheduled to distribute the final round of benefits payments on the schedule for March 2025.
When are Social Security payments being made in March 2025?
Each month, most of the U.S.’s more than 70 million recipients of Social Security retirement, SSDI and survivor benefits are paid on one of three Wednesdays, under a staggered system that decides a recipient’s payment day by their date of birth.
This month, the three-Wednesdays schedule kicked off on March 12, when Social Security checks were distributed to recipients born between the first and the 10th of each month. On March 19, payments were then made to recipients born on the 11th to the 20th.
And on March 26, it will be the turn of Social Security beneficiaries born between the 21st and the 31st.
Who receives their Social Security check outside the above schedule?
Recipients of retirement, SSDI or survivor pay who began getting benefits before May 1997 are not included in any of the above Wednesday payment runs. They typically receive their check on the third of the month.
In March 2025, therefore, these beneficiaries were due to get their money on Monday 3rd.
Meanwhile, recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) - a separate benefits scheme that is paid for by general tax revenues, rather than Social Security taxes - usually get their check on the first of the month.
There is an exception to the two payment dates outlined above: if they fall on a weekend or a holiday, they are moved forward to the nearest working day. As March 1 was a Saturday, this month’s SSI checks went out on February 28.
It is possible to claim both SSI and regular Social Security pay; such beneficiaries are paid the former on the first and the latter on the third (unless they fall on a Saturday/Sunday/holiday).

How much do retired workers receive from Social Security?
Retired workers receive around $2,000 a month on average from the SSA. To be precise, the average monthly retirement check in 2025 stands at $1,980, according to the agency.
How much a retired worker gets mainly depends on their earnings history during their working life, and the age at which they start picking up their retirement benefits.
Currently, the highest Social Security amount available to retirees in America is $5,108 per month.
How much are other Social Security beneficiaries paid?
According to figures published by the SSA, disabled workers are paid an average monthly SSDI check for $1,580, while recipients of survivor benefits are given an average of $1,547 a month. The SSI program features monthly checks for an average of $715.
