Honda is recalling nearly 250,000 vehicles due to a part defect resulting from improper settings of manufacturing equipment. During the production of the crankshaft used in the recalled vehicles the crank pin was improperly ground leaving their shape outside of the specification ranges.

This defect can cause the connecting rod bearing to prematurely wear and seize, which in turn can damage the engine. Engines may run improperly, stalling, stopping while being driven, “increasing the risk of a fire, crash or injury.”

As of 3 November, Honda says that it has received 1,450 warranty claims, but there are “no reports of injuries or deaths related to this issue,” according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Owners will be contacted by mail starting 2 January 2024. They will be asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer where an inspection, and if necessary, repairs will be performed or the engine will be replaced, all free of charge. Any owners who have already paid to have repairs done due to the manufacturing error, they will be eligible for reimbursement.

According to the recall a total of 248,999 vehicles are potentially involved. It’s estimated that around one percent of the vehicles in the recalls have been affected by the manufacturing defect.

The NHTSA Campaign Number is 23V-751, while Honda’s numbers for these recalls are XG1 and GG0. Concerned owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.
