Cate Blanchett is regarded as one of the greatest actresses of her generation and of the 21st century. Her superb work on the big screen is proof of that, as well as her roles in the theater. She is known for being a chameleon, not only adapting to any type of role but also doing it well enough to be nominated for the most prestigious awards.

The Australian is capable of mastering different accents in her native English, including Irish, British and several regional accents from the United States, something that sets her apart. She took to the stage in the year of her graduation (1992) for the work of ‘Electra’, and from there her career evolved, making her film debut two years later (1994) in the film ‘Police Rescue’.

Becoming one of the leading actresses of her time

Little by little she made a name for herself, including small roles on the small screen. But her real interest lay in the movies and when she landed the part of Queen Elizabeth I in ‘Elizabeth’ that role catapulted her to fame, as well as landing her awards such as a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and her first Oscar nomination.

The big productions couldn’t get enough. Everyone wanted Cate Blanchett on their film sets, but she only wanted to accept roles that really gave her new experiences, rejecting a number of roles. She did however agree to play the elf Galadriel in the saga of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, as well as taking on the role in the ‘The Hobbit’ movies.

Now, Blanchett is seeking her third Oscar, her second for Best Actress, after a total of eight nominations (including her wins), thanks to her new film, ‘TÁR’ , where the actress puts herself in the shoes of Lydia Tár, the musician who is about to record the symphony of her life, but whose fate turns against her.
