How to watch The Simpsons anime episode: Death Note parody included in Treehouse of Horror XXXIII Halloween special
The annual Treehouse of Horror episode will feature takes on three well-known TV shows, but it is the anime cross-over that has grabbed fans’ attention.
Every year The Simpsons releases a special Halloween episode, known as the Treehouse of Horror show, which shows a darker side of America’s longest running animated series.
The 2022 edition, Treehouse of Horror XXXIII, hands over creative control of one of three segments to South Korean anime studio DR Movie, perhaps best known for its work on Avatar: The Last Airbender.
This year’s special will include a parody of iconic anime title Death Note, titled ‘Death Tome’.
You can watch The Simpsons’ 2023 Halloween special when it airs on FOX stations on October 30, 8pm EST, or by streaming the show via Hulu from 31 October onwards.
What happens in The Simpsons’ Death Note episode?
Treehouse of Horror XXXIII will be comprised of three segments, parodying The Babadook, Westworld and Death Note.
The Death Note parody, ‘Death Tome’, will be the second part of the episode and screenshots released by the creators give a clue as to what to expect from the show. Homer, Marge and Lisa are pictured in the iconic anime art styling, in a dystopian city.
A short video has also emerged, in which Lisa receives the all-powerful ‘Death Tome’ after expressing her annoyance with the state of the polluted world. Here’s a look at the first clips to have emerged from The Simpsons Halloween special 2023, Treehouse of Horror XXXIII…
She can be heard saying: “The human race is 20 cow farts away from total extinction and we deserve it.”
Lisa’s environmental quest looks set to form the basis of the storyline in an eerie reimagining of Springfield. Also visible in the teaser trailer are anime versions of Disco Stu, and Lisa’s schoolmates Sherri and Terri.
