A once-in-a-generation event will take place on Monday 8 April, with a total solar eclipse expected to start over the centre of the Pacific Ocean, cross Mexico, the United States and Canada before finishing over the Atlantic.

When will the next total solar eclipse be?

A total eclipse will be visible in the US for the second time in seven years, with the next one not expected to be visible stateside for another 20 years. This year’s is expected to last twice as long and be twice as wide as 2017′s, with almost every American able to see a partial eclipse from where they live…provided the skies are clear enough.

Where are the best places to see the eclipse?

That could, of course, prove to be an obstacle for plenty. As of Saturday, two days before the event, the National Weather Service believes northern New England is your best bet to catch the eclipse, while the area between northern Arkansas to central Indiana should also get good views provided those pesky clouds decide otherwise, which may or may not happen.

There is a 20-30% chance of rain showers causing trouble for those watching on in Texas, Oklahoma, southern Arkansas, Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania and western New York, while thunderstorms could well prove a spanner in the works for anyone in the Southern Plains and the lower Mississippi Valley.

There are, however, two ways of making sure you get a perfect view of the event. The following Delta Airlines flights will be flying at around 30,000 feet, above any potential clouds that could block their view. Tickets, as you might expect, are incredibly limited don’t come cheap.

Where can I watch the total solar eclipse online or on TV? When is it?

You could, alternatively, watch on from the comfort of your own home either online or on television. The one way cloud cover won’t be an issue, with clear skies guaranteed on screen, and solar eclipse glasses won’t be required either.

Disney+ and Hulu will be streaming the event, as will NASA on its website.

If you’d rather watch on television, you’ll also have plenty of options, with ABC, CNN and NBC all broadcasting the eclipse.

In most cases, live coverage of the event is expected to start at 2 p.m. ET on Monday 8 April and last for around two hours. The total solar eclipse itself, however, is expected to be visible for about four minutes.
