You won’t believe this LeBron James streak record that pre-dates the iPhone

LeBron James became the first NBA player to reach 50,000 total career points (regular season and playoffs) as the Los Angeles Lakers’ convincingly defeated the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday.

The veteran star registered 34 points, as well as eight rebounds and six assists, as the Californians dominated the game from start to finish, ultimately winning 136-115 at Crypto.com Arena.

James reached his latest milestone with his very first points of the game, sinking a three-pointer in the first quarter. While much of the attention was on the 40-year-old breaking the 50,000-point barrier, he also went on to continue a sensational scoring streak that boggles the mind.

By hitting double figures against the Pelicans (of which there was little doubt), LeBron extended his run of scoring at least 10 points in a game to an almost incomprehensible 1,277 consecutive games. Understandably, that is by far the longest such streak in the NBA.

The world the last time LeBron scored fewer than 10 points in an NBA game

The last time James failed to score at least 10 points was on January 5, 2007, when he managed only eight in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ victory against the Milwaukee Bucks. He bounced back with 19 in the defeat to the New Jersey Nets the following day and has reached double figures in every single game for more than 18 years since then.

That game against the Nets on January 6, 2007 came only three days before Steve Jobs presented the first-generation iPhone, which launched later that year.

Additionally, the previous occasion on which LeBron scored fewer than 10 points in an NBA game, Windows XP was Microsoft’s newest operating system, “The Sopranos” was in the middle of its final season and Barack Obama was Illinois State Senator.
