If you’ve ever had pain in one area of your body and then a moment later in a different area, experts are clear on this: “It’s not a coincidence.”
When faced with pain, the body seeks other areas to continue functioning.

Physical pain is more common in everyday life than we might think, whether due to a fast-paced lifestyle, sports activity and the injuries it can cause, or the long-term wear and tear of work. Many factors can trigger pain, and normalizing it can become a problem because it may spread to other areas of the body.
This topic was discussed on social media by Oriol Zamora, a physiotherapist and osteopath at Novamedicum medical center.
“Have you ever felt pain in one part of your body and, after a while, felt it somewhere else?” Oriol asks. This “is not a coincidence,” he explains, warning that “the body is compensating.”
— Oriol Zamora · Fisioterapeuta #dolor #compensaciones #fisioterapia #dolormuscular #movimiento #saludcorporal #NovaMedicum

Pain causes some areas of the body to work harder
When there is pain, when a muscle is weak, or when a joint does not move as it should, the body searches for other areas to keep moving. As a result, those areas end up working more than normal, Zamora explains.
Over time, this can lead to overload, pain in areas different from the original source, and the sensation that the pain keeps shifting from place to place. In the end, the body compensates to protect you, but in the long term this compensation can generate more pain. So if a pain keeps recurring or changes location, do not ignore it. There is usually an underlying cause.
