What movies do Al Pacino and Robert De Niro star in together?
Robert de Niro and Al Pacino are two beloved actors with great careers. Since their crossover in ‘The Godfather II’, they have had several collaborations.
Robert de Niro and Al Pacino are two of the most recognizable actors, not only of their generation, but of all time. Both have had considerable careers in the world of acting, having received major awards on numerous occasions for their performances.
However, only on a few occasions have the two stars shared the big screen.
“We got together early on,” said Al Pacino in an interview with GQ where both actors sat down to promote ‘The Irishman.’ Adding that the two “shared something, which was a big thing at the time.”
The first collaboration together
The first feature film the two stared, though they recorded their scenes separately, was the second part of ‘The Godfather’ (1974) by Francis Ford Coppola. Robert de Niro played a young Vito Corleone -which won him his first Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actor. Al Pacino was also nominated, for Best Actor, for his performance as Michael Corleone, son of Vito.
‘Heat’, another masterpieces
The next film in which both appear and in which, this time, where they shot together is ‘Heat’ (1995), by Michael Mann. In this case, Pacino and De Niro maintained their particular tug-of-war in their respective roles as a good cop -Detective Vincent Hanna- and bank robber Neil McCauley.
The second film in which both shared scenes, and the third total, was ‘Righteous Murder’ (2008), directed by Jon Avnet. In this film, both play New York police detectives, a role for which Catacric, a collective of film critics from Catalonia, ‘awarded’ them with the YoGa Award for worst actors of the year.
‘The Irishman’, most recent film
In 2019, under the tutelage of Martin Scorsese, they starred in ‘The Irishman’, their last film together to date.
This American gangster drama was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture, with Al Pacino among the contenders for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Jimmy Hoffa. However, the awards ultimately went to the film ‘Parasites’ and Brad Pitt for his performance in ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’.
