The White House sends NATO its famous elite unit that went down in history for the Normandy landings in World War II
The United States is sending to Romania a world-famous elite unit of soldiers amid growing tensions.

The United States are set to reinforce their military base in Kogălniceanu, Romania, which will become the biggest in Europe. And to do so, they are sending in a famous, elite unit of soldiers who are a fixture in the history books of modern times.
Romanian media outlet Stirile Pro Tv says that the US 101st Airborne Division, specialised in air assault operations, is now set to embark on its second mission in the country: the first was almost 80 years ago, during the Normandy landings.

US ‘wants a reinforcement of NATO’s eastern flank’
The invasion of Normandy, widely known as the D-Day operation, came on June 6, 1944. The huge military operation brought together the land, air, and sea forces of the allies in the largest amphibious invasion in military history.
The Eisenhower Library website writes that “fighting by the brave soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the allied forces western front, and Russian forces on the eastern front, led to the defeat of German Nazi forces.”
“The return of these elite soldiers was decided earlier this year by the U.S. military leadership, which wants a reinforcement of NATO’s eastern flank.”

The Huffington Post writes that " the new military town in Mihail Kogălniceanu, is being built. In it, more than ten thousand NATO soldiers and their families will be able to reside permanently."
