On Monday, January 20, Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, becoming only the second man ever to serve non-consecutive terms as the country’s commander-in-chief.

Trump, who was previously the US president from 2017 to 2021, was elected to succeed president Joe Biden in November. The Republican secured a comprehensive election victory over Democratic vice-president Kamala Harris, winning 312 electoral votes to Harris’s 226.

Trump’s pick for vice-president, J.D. Vance, will also be sworn in on Monday.

What time will Trump’s inauguration begin?

The president-elect’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 12 noon ET/9:00 a.m. PT, before Trump delivers his opening address.

The ceremony is usually held outdoors at the west front of the United States Capitol, but this year is to be moved indoors due to expected adverse weather.

In a post on his Truth Social social-media platform on Friday, Trump said: “The weather forecast for Washington, D.C., with the windchill factor, could take temperatures into severe record lows. There is an Arctic blast sweeping the Country. I don’t want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way.

“Therefore, I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather.”
