Update:

A Russian singer who criticised Vladimir Putin has died in mysterious circumstances after falling from his 10th floor apartment window during a raid by state officials.

It was reported by Russian media outlets (all of which varied in terms of the details) that Vadim Stroykin, 58, was being paid a visit by law enforcement officers after being connected to a criminal case involved alleged donations to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Initial reports rose that claimed the singer had died by suicide, with a Telegram channel thought to have connections to Russian security services saying: “During the investigation, the man made an excuse to go to a different room, where he quickly opened a window and took an irreversible action.”

Stroykin wanted Putin ‘put in prison’

Stroykin was a vocal anti-war activist and had caught the attention of many after he posted a series of online posts to the Russian platform VKontakte, criticising the Russian invasion of Ukraine and calling Putin a “b*stard who went to war not only against a brotherly nation but declared war on his own people. I don’t wish for his death; I want to see him tried and put in prison."

The singer was, according to news outlet Fontanka, “last seen alive on the 10th floor when he stepped out into the kitchen to drink water”. He would have been sentenced to 20 years in jail had he been convicted of crimes against the state.
