NYPD name a person of interest in subway attack

The New York Police Department have named a person of interest in the attack on commuters Tuesday morning. The man's name is Frank James, he's 5 foot 5 inches tall and was wearing a MTA green outfit and orange reflective vest when he fled the scene of the attack on the N Train.

Police found a U-Haul van with an Arizona license plate matching the one they were looking for in connection with the rush-hour attack on subway commuters in Brooklyn. New York subway shooting suspect still at large, authorities asking for help

New York law enforcement is conducting a manhunt to locate the suspect would opened fire on subway commuters in Brooklyn Tuesday morning. They have asked the public to stay away from the scene of the attack while they investigate. However, they are asking for information on the suspect from anyone who may have seen something suspicious like the suspect throwing away an orange reflective vest or an MTA outfit worn by the suspect.

More smoke canisters and gasoline cans found at site of Brooklyn subway shooting

The morning rush hour commute on the subway turned chaotic around 8:24 am on Tuesday when a man dressed in a green construction vest donned a gas mask and set off smoke bombs before shooting passengers on the train. The attack resulted in at least 16 people injured, 10 with gunshot wounds. Five of the victims are in critical, but stable, condition.

Authorities have not yet apprehended the supect, a black male 5'5", but have found more unexploded smoke canisters and gasoline cans confirming suspicions that the attack was premeditated.

How many people were killed in the Brooklyn subway attack?

In a developing situation there has been widespread uncertainty about the scale and severity of the attack on a New York City subway train earlier this morning. The suspect launched smoke bombs in to the busy carriage and opened fire on commuters going about their daily routine. 

This afternoon we have received further information about the incident from an NYPD press conference in downtown Brooklyn. It was confirmed that the gunfire itself wounded at least 10 people, while at least 16 were injured in the attack in total. Five people were in critical condition according to New York Fire Department Acting Commissioner Laura Kavanagh. However Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell announced that there were no life-threatening injuries as yet reported despite the large number of injuries. 

The attack began on a subway train that pulled into the 36th Street station in the borough’s Sunset Park neighborhood.

Here's what we know about the New York subway attacker

After hours of speculation it appears that law enforcement officials do have a rough description of the suspect believed to be responsible for the attack. The perpetrator is thought to be a Black male about 5ft 5in tall, with a heavy set build. He is said to have been wearing a green "construction-type" vest with a grey hooded sweatshirt underneath, possibly to mimick the uniform of transit workers who frequent the subway stations across the city. 

A massive manhunt is now underway to find the suspect. It is not yet known whether it was a lone wolf attack or whether the perpretator could have been working with others. It is thought that that incident was well-planned and that the suspect had purposely targeted the busy commmuter trains that transport millions of people to and from their place of work every day.

What happened in New York subway station shooting?

A horrific attack has left more than a dozen victims in hospital and the area around 36th Street subway closed off while police hunt for the suspect. The incident occurred during the morning commute at the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood, according to news media.

Description of the NYC subway attacker from Brooklyn

It is thought that the perpretator of this morning's horrific attack on 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn is still at large, having fled the scene after committing the attack. Images of the suspect have not yet been published but we do have a physical description of the man suspected. 

The New York Times reports:  "A senior law enforcement official said that the police were seeking a heavyset man with a gas mask and an orange construction vest who had been wearing a dark blue outfit that appeared to resemble that of a transit worker."

NYPD confirms that there are no active devices at the scene

Earlier reports had claimed that law enforcement had located explosive devices on the scene at the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn, but this has been dismissed by NYPD in recent minutes.
