Update:

China is set to open up the world’s largest bridge, a colossal metal monster structure that stands 2,051 feet (625 meters) above the Beipan River.

It is located in China’s Guizhou province and will open in June this year; the region is a mountainous, rocky territory that already houses nearly half of the world’s top 100 tallest bridges.

Known as the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, it is 947 feet taller than France’s Millau Viaduct, the current title holder of the world’s largest.

The reason behind the construction of the bridge is simple: it will reduce travel time over the canyon from two hours to one minute.

After over three years under construction, which began in 2022, the bridge will improve connectivity between Guizhou Province and other cities in the area.

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge extends approximately 2,890 meters in length, featuring a main span of around 1,420 meters. Constructed at a cost of CNY 1.87 billion (roughly $256,000,000), the bridge is a steel truss suspension structure, with its trusses weighing about 22,000 tons.

The project will also see the construction of a 1,500-foot-long enclosed pedestrian walkway, a bungee jump area, and a restaurant.
