Pablo Ojeda, nutritionist: “Vitamin D is not obtained solely from sunbathing; it is important to combine it with other foods”
The food expert has revealed the importance of vitamin K2, something that should be considered, especially after turning forty.

Some realities feel almost impossible to explain. Why are there no penguins in the Arctic? Why is foie spelled with three vowels but pronounced with the other two? And when it comes to the human body, the list of oddities gets even longer. One of the most surprising: in countries bathed in sunshine, a huge portion of the population is still deficient in vitamin D.
That’s the issue nutrition expert and content creator Pablo Ojeda highlighted in a recent video.“More than 80% of people over 40 are low in vitamin D… even if they live in a sunny country,” he explained. And the reason, he says, goes far beyond simply not getting enough sunlight.
“It’s not a trend—it’s metabolic strategy”
Ojeda says he sees the same pattern year after year in lab work and consultations. The problem isn’t just how many hours of sun you get—it’s how your body handles it.
“It depends on your age, your skin, your body fat, and how your liver works,” he said. “A lot of people even take vitamin D supplements, but still deal with fragile bones, fatigue, or a weak immune system.”
According to him, the missing piece is something “almost nobody explains.”
Vitamin D doesn’t work alone
“Vitamin D by itself doesn’t work well,” Ojeda said. “Vitamin D raises calcium levels in the blood, but it needs vitamin K2 to send that calcium to the right place. Vitamin D opens the door, and K2 decides where the calcium goes.”
That’s why, he argues, after age 40, the combination of D3 and K2 becomes a game‑changer.
How to make the most of it
Ojeda recommends taking the D3 + K2 combo with dietary fat, pairing it with magnesium, and adjusting amounts based on lab results. And consistency matters—he stresses it shouldn’t be something people only think about in winter.
For him, this isn’t a fad or a wellness craze. “After 40, it’s not a trend… it’s metabolic strategy.”
