Update:

President Trump was the center of attention at Tuesday’s regular White House press briefing, where he marked the first year of his second term by meandering through a familiar list of claimed achievements from the past 12 months.

While Trump appeared eager to celebrate himself, he initially avoided one topic that has refused to go away: Greenland.

Greenland questions resurface

The president initially steered clear of discussing a potential invasion of Greenland or a growing dispute with NATO over his intentions for the world’s largest island, which belongs to Denmark.

However, as Trump took questions from reporters, he was inevitably pressed on Greenland and responded with what sounded very much like a warning, delivered in just three words.

When asked how far he was willing to go to acquire the island, Trump replied: “You’ll find out.”

Tariffs, threats and a tense message to Norway

Trump has recently threatened to impose a 10% tariff starting Feb. 1 on goods from eight European nations that have sent troops to help defend Greenland’s sovereignty. He said that levy would rise to 25% on June 1 and remain in place until the United States has full ownership of the island.

Over the weekend, it also emerged that Trump sent what has been widely described as a “bonkers” letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. The message reportedly included a not-so-subtle warning of armed confrontation if the United States was not granted what Trump called “Complete and Total Control” of Greenland.
