Family relations can often be a “mixed bag,” said Prince William when he visited an Army Air Corps base at Wattisham. He made the off-the-cuff remark along with others when he made his first call since becoming Colonel-in-Chief at the military base in Suffolk to meet some of the members of 3rd and 4th Regiments.

The Prince of Wales, who arrived on a Wildcat helicopter, was there to tour the base and see a demonstration of the training the ACC members go through to carry out their duties. Along with serving up some breakfast and handing out awards, he also gave a dollop of wisdom, some would say from his own experience.

He let the soldiers know in a light-hearted nature that some of their family members “might not want to see you that much.” That was taken as a dig at his brother Prince Harry by some in the media after perceived slights continue to mount among the Royal family.

Royal feud continues to simmer

Things between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the Royal family haven’t been going exactly swimmingly in recent years. There was the whole ditching of royal duties in 2020 and moving to California, something foreseen by Princess Anne. Then there was the Oprah interview, Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ and the Netflix documentary the estranged royals put out for the world to see peeling back the curtain on the British monarchy.

More recently, he did an extensive interview with the BBC where he again talked about his family’s private affairs as well as health struggles, that were perceived as insensitive to them. The ill-judged, ill-timed interview was seen as being a personal PR disaster for the Duke of Sussex.

And it was just reported on Wednesday by The Guardian that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex explored the idea of changing their last names to Spencer, the maiden name of William’s and Harry’s mother Princess Diana. According to sources the move was out of “sheer exasperation” over repeated delays by British officials to issue passports for their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

And so it goes, the Duke of Wales can speak perfectly from experience that family relations can often be a “mixed bag” and “some of them might not want to see you that much.”
