The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of more than 1.5 million dozen eggs after routine environmental testing detected the potential presence of Salmonella Enteritidis. The recall was initiated by Midwest Poultry Services and covers both white and brown cage-free shell eggs.
The affected products were sold under several well-known labels, including Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire’s, Country Morning and Sunups, and were distributed to stores and food-service customers in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Mississippi.
According to the FDA, the recalled eggs were packed between June 6 and July 3 and have sell-by or best-by dates ranging from July 20 through August 17. Consumers can identify affected cartons using the plant codes and Julian dates printed on the packaging.
No illnesses linked to the recall have been reported so far. The company says it immediately redirected potentially affected eggs for pasteurization and launched an internal investigation after the issue was identified.

Anyone who purchased the recalled eggs should avoid eating them and return them to the retailer for a full refund. Salmonella infection can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea and stomach cramps, with more serious complications possible for young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
