Latin pop-star Ricky Martin has been in the news after it was reported that he had a sexual relationship with his nephew. How did the singer make his money?
In early July, shockwaves rippled throughout the Latin Pop world after a restraining order against singer Ricky Martin was approved by courts in Puerto Rico. Until recently the subject of the order was unknown. Now, it as been reported that it Martin’s twenty-one year old nephew who alleges that the two were in a seven month relationship. After the alleged relationship, the plaintiff alleges that Ricky called him frequently and was seen loitering around his home after he broke off the relationship. Initially no police report was made, instead the nephew went straight to the courts to request a protective order.
Martin has denied the allegations publically on social media.
Additionally, a lawyer for Martin provided a statement to Variety which states clearly that allegations “are ‘not only untrue’ but ‘disgusting.’” Marty Singer, Ricky Martin’s lawyer claimed that his nephew is “struggling with deep mental health challenges.” The statement also says that Ricky hopes that “this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”
Martin’s brother, Eric, took to Facebook live to defend Ricky, confirming that his nephew is indeed struggling with mental illness and that he is receiving help. It is importnat to note that the brother that posted the video is not the father of the alleged victim.
Ricky Martin will have to appear in court in Puerto Rico on 21 July to state his case in front of the judge. It is at that point that the courts will determine whether or not the protective order will remain in place or not.
