Shooting outside Donald Trump’s golf course, the former president is ‘safe’
A shooting took place this afternoon at Donald Trump’s golf course in Florida. The former president is reported to be “safe.” Here’s what we know about the incident.
Florida authorities responded to a call of a shooting outside Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach. According to initial police reports, the incident occurred around 2 p.m. (local time).
According to the Associated Press, the FBI said Trump was the target of “what appears to be an attempted assassination. The shooting comes approximately two months after the Republican presidential candidate was grazed by a bullet during an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.
Donald Trump is ‘safe’
Following initial reports of the incident, Trump’s campaign communications director, Steven Cheung, issued a statement to report that the former US president and Republican presidential candidate is “safe.”
“President Trump is safe following the shooting in his neighborhood. No further details are available at this time,” Cheung wrote.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said Trump was playing, with Secret Service agents a few holes ahead of him, when the agents noticed a person with a weapon hiding in shrubbery around 400 to 500 yards from Trump, per AP.
They fired at the man who was aiming an AK-47 as the former president was on the course. the suspect then dropped the weapon and fled in an SUV.
According to police sources, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office has “stopped a vehicle and taken a suspect into custody believed to be connected to a shooting incident at Trump International in Palm Beach County.”

Trump has come out to assure the public that he is indeed unharmed.
Vice president Kamala Harris has condemned the incident. “Violence has no place in America,” she said, per Sky News.
In a White House statement a short time ago, President Joe Biden and vice president were said to have been “briefed about the security incident” where the former president was golfing.
“They are relieved to know that he is safe. They will be kept regularly updated by their team,” the statement said.
