Rest is a vital part of daily life for millions of people – it takes up nearly a third of the day and helps recharge energy, reduce the risk of chronic illness, strengthen the immune system and regulate mood, among many other benefits.
To rest properly, sleep is key. Yet far too many people fall short of the recommended seven to nine hours. In this context, Juan Nattex, a rest expert and content creator, has shared a short TikTok video breaking down the effects of sleeping too little.

“If you sleep eight hours, you’ll wake up with energy and mental clarity. Seven is fine, but you’re already starting to build up fatigue. With six hours, you’ll have less concentration and more tiredness,” he begins. He then explains that with five hours, you enter “a deficit,” leading to greater irritability and lower immunity.
“With four hours, your body goes into emergency mode and you experience memory lapses. Three hours brings micro blackouts and total clumsiness. Two hours, it’s as if you were drunk, and with one hour, you face physical and mental collapse,” he concludes.

The video, which in just a few hours racked up over 80,000 views, 3,000 likes and 100 comments, has sparked curiosity among many viewers, who didn’t hesitate to bring their questions to the sleep expert.
“What happens if I don’t sleep?”, “I sleep 14 hours and wake up exhausted – I don’t get it”, “And what if you sleep 12 hours?” and “I once slept only two hours and felt more rested than after seven or eight” are just a few of the many reactions in the comments.
