SNAP schedule update: Which U.S. states are still to pay out benefits for April 2026?
In the U.S., some states and territories are still in the process of sending out benefits as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

While many U.S. states and territories have now issued all April payments as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), more than a dozen are still to reach the end of their distribution schedule for this month.
A food-stamps scheme that averaged 42 million monthly beneficiaries in 2025 - but has been hit by tightening eligibility rules and work requirements - SNAP is worth an average of $188 per month per person, according to statistics shared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
How are SNAP benefits paid out?
Beneficiaries receive their monthly SNAP money on the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, a special debit card that can then be used to purchase groceries at participating stores across the U.S.
Although SNAP is a federal program, the distribution of funds is organized at state level, with each administration following payment schedules that group recipients differently. For example, Alabama’s payment runs are staggered according to beneficiaries’ case numbers, while Indiana’s distribution dates depend on the first letter of a recipient’s last name.
