American presidential inaugurations have increasingly become the subject of internet memes as the public tunes in and shares real-time reactions to the events. Remember Bernie’s mittens in 2020?

The moment First Lady Melania Trump appeared wearing a stiff blue hat, social media erupted with jokes about the fashion choice, which seemed to strategically shield her face from the cameras.

The Daily Show, now hosted by Jon Stewart on Monday nights, joined the fun with a post that gained traction, comparing the First Lady’s hat to the Pizza Hut logo. The caption read, “No one out-pizzas the Hut.”

The Daily Show’s post was far from the only meme commenting on the hat.

The political account Call to Activism, which shares a lot of anti-Trump content, compared the hat to the one worn by the Hamburgler.

Some posts also focused on how the hat undoubtedly limited her vision of the events unfolding.

No one was safe

In addition to memes, many short “viral moments” have also been shared. One of the most popular is former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who lost to the president in 2016, laughing when Trump vowed to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Clinton and many other Democrats are famous for this kind of recorded reaction.

The billionaires in attendance included X owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Amazon founder and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos.

An awkward moment caught on camera—perhaps validating Melania’s decision to wear that hat—involved Zuckerberg appearing to glance at Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sanchez.

When Zuckerberg looked up, he seemed to make eye contact with someone before offering an awkward smile. Trump supporter AB84 shared a photo of the moment on X with his more than two million followers, amplifying the viral exchange.

Even Donald Trump was dunked on or called out for his behavior. In one shocking turn of events that many are pointing to, it appears that the president did not place his hand on the Bible when he took the oath of office. A simple mistake or a message that he will not be controlled?
