Update:

T-Mobile customers who had their private information exposed in a massive breach in 2021 may be entitled to a cut of a vast $350 million settlement agreement, but the distribution process has not been swift.

In 2023 the telecoms giant agreed to establish a $350 million fund to compensate the affected customers, with three different channels created. Those were: 1.) Up to $25,000 reimbursement for documented losses; 2.) $25 per hour for a maximum of 15 hours spent addressing issues; 3.) one-off cash payments from $25 to $100 based on state of residence.

It’s thought that around 79 million customers are eligible for the support and T-Mobile has been forced to completely rethink its cybersecurity operations as a result. The company upped cybersecurity spending by $150 million through the end of 2023 to help mitigate the risk for customers and it promised to focused on protection.

“Customers are first in everything we do and protecting their information is a top priority,” T-Mobile said in a statement. “Like every company, we are not immune to these criminal attacks. Our efforts to guard against them continue and over the past year we have doubled down on our extensive cybersecurity program.”

The court proceedings have not been concluded and the first round of payments from T-Mobile is set to go out in April 2025. It’s that that this first round of payments will include the reimbursements of up to $25,000 for people who lost money as a result of the breach.

Those who are eligible for any of the settlement payments will have been notified and given details of their ‘Class’, the type of payment that they will receive.
