A significant cold front, dubbed Cold Front 29 by meteorologists, is set to bring a sharp drop in temperatures across the United States this week.
Winter weather and Frost warnings in 11 US states
The National Weather Service has issued extreme winter weather warnings for 11 states, stretching from the Canadian border down to Oklahoma and central Texas. This Arctic front is expected to bring near-record low temperatures and single-digit wind chills by midweek.

Life-threatening wind chills of 30 to 55 degrees below zero are forecast for the south-central Plains and east into the Ohio Valley.
Frost advisories are in place along the Gulf Coast and northern Florida, affecting the following cities: Belmont, Macclenny, Live Oak, Newburn,Watertown, Suwannee Springs, White Springs, Blue Springs,McAlpin, Columbia, Suwannee Valley, Lulu, West Lake, Winfield,Ratliff, Lake Butler, Jennings, Olustee, Bryceville, Lake City,Suwannee River Station, Hilliard, Oleno State Park, Kings Ferry, Jasper, and Houston.
Northeast
- New York: Expect up to 10 inches of snow and wind chills as low as 5°F.
- Boston: Snowstorms will reduce visibility on the roads.
North-Central
- North Dakota and Montana: Temperatures could plummet to -60°F in some areas, with life-threatening cold warnings in effect.
- Iowa and Nebraska: Wind chills could reach -25°F, posing a risk of frostbite on exposed skin in less than 30 minutes.
Midwest
- Chicago: Temperatures will drop to 0°F, accompanied by strong winds and heavy snowfall.
- Denver: Possible snow accumulations of up to 12 inches and temperatures as low as -8°F.
South
- Texas (panhandle): Temperatures could fall to 5°F, with wind chills between -10°F and -20°F. Cities like Childress, Lubbock, and Amarillo will face extreme conditions.
- Florida (panhandle) and Georgia: Temperatures may drop to 20°F, with a risk of frost.

Deaths in Kentucky and West Virginia
Travel disruptions are expected, as parts of southern Texas and southeast Georgia brace for sleet and freezing rain.
CNN report that at least 15 people died as a result of last weekend’s storm - 12 in Kentucky and two in West Virginia, while another is reported missing.
