Update:

The AH-64E Apache is the world’s most high-tech military helicopter, and just one country in the world can claim to own a total of 50 units.

Recently it was conformed by the British Ministry of Defence that the delivery of the last AH-64E Apache attack helicopter from Boeing had taken place that saw the arsenal upgraded from an existing fleet of WAH-64D models. The handover occurred at Boeing’s manufacturing facility in Mesa, Arizona, where these helicopters undergo final assembly.

The twin-engine, tandem-seat helicopter uses cutting-edge technology and is capable of performing on missions at any time of day or night in any atmospheric conditions.

Apache can fire 1,160 rounds of automatic cannon fire

The aircraft has a top speed of over 300kph, and boasts a wide range of high tech capabilities: it has a passive detection of radar threats without exposing its position and it can track over 1,000 targets, classify 256, and prioritise the top 16 in a matter of seconds.

Its engagement versatility extends across land, maritime, and air targets, delivering up to 1,160 rounds of 30mm automatic cannon fire, up to 76 wing-mounted 70mm Hydra or Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System rockets, and up to 16 Hellfire and Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles.

Survivability has been significantly enhanced on this new model with advanced situational awareness displays, Hostile Fire Indicators, real-time geolocation of threats, and a modernised Defensive Aid Suite that integrates on- and off-board sensors, sharing threat data via Link 16 datalinks.

Maria Laine, President of Boeing UK, Ireland, and the Nordics, said that “delivering the 50th E-model Apache to the British Army marks a significant achievement in Boeing’s enduring alliance with the United Kingdom, a relationship that spans more than 80 years. I am immensely proud of our global team for their dedication in delivering and supporting this advanced Apache fleet, a vital capability that will bolster UK national security for decades to come.”
