The SNAP payment dates in July 2024 in each US state
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is preparing to begin sending benefits for the month of July. This is the payment schedule in each state.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is managed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) at the federal level. However, at the state level, SNAP benefits are distributed and managed by state agencies such as the Department of Social Services or the Department of Human Services. If you are looking to enroll in the program, a great first step is to identify the SNAP authority in your home state, which can be done using the USDA’s SNAP Directory.
How are benefits distributed?
These agencies are responsible for handling the application process, determining eligibility, and overseeing the distribution of benefits to eligible individuals and families. Each state has its own schedule for delivering the benefits, during which the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards are reloaded. These cards function as debit cards and can be used at many major supermarket chains, smaller grocers, and some farmer’s markets. Over forty million people benefit from SNAP each month, making it the country’s largest program focused on food assistance.
Additionally, this summer, some states will reload the EBT card with additional funds as households with children will not be able to benefit from free or reduced lunch plans offered at school. The program is called Sun Bucks, and qualifying families will see the additional benefit reflected in their balance in July.
Each household will receive information about their payment date, which will not change. This date is carefully determined based on factors such as the last digit of their case number or the first letter of their last name, reflecting the program’s consideration for each beneficiary’s unique circumstances. Many states stagger distribution dates throughout the month to avoid overloading retailers and to ensure that benefits are available to recipients evenly throughout the month.
