The tiny daily habit that could triple your chances of becoming a millionaire, according to an economist
Whether it’s about increasing happiness or building your chances of earning €100,000 a year by 43%, little things can make a difference.
A socioeconomist has revealed what he believes is the real key to success – the daily routines that quietly shape our lives. The simple, repetitive actions we carry out every day, he argues, can ultimately determine who we become and whether we succeed.
In one of his most cited analyses, Randall Bell, an expert in economics and success strategies, concluded that people who make their bed every morning are up to 206.8% more likely to become millionaires. To him, that habit symbolizes order, discipline and persistence.
“It’s not about magic or luck. It’s about creating routines that, over time, change your life,” says Bell, who sees habits as the foundation of success.
Reading boosts success by 122%
In 2017, Bell published Me-We-Do-Be: The Four Cornerstones of Success, where he studied more than 5,000 people – from the unemployed to billionaires. His conclusion: success is driven by habits. He found that reading for 30 minutes a day increases the chances of success by 122%.
Other key habits include waking up three hours before the workday, exercising for at least 15 minutes a day, and planning tasks in advance. Bill Gates reads more than 50 books a year, as does Warren Buffet, both of whom dedicate much of their free time to reading – a practice Bell considers a form of ongoing education.
Family life also plays a decisive role. According to Bell’s research, eating dinner as a family raises the likelihood of happiness by 41% and the chances of reaching an annual income of $100,000 by 43%.
