The highest paid CEOs in the world have been revealed for 2023, with their huge wealth causing eyes to bulge with imagined riches for whoever reads the list. The numbers are simply incomprehensible, with their various companies that range from online retail to technology to cars giving them a huge salary package to take home every month.

Here is the list of the top 10 highest paid CEOs in the world this year; we’re going to start from 10 and count down:

Top 10 highest paid CEOs in the world as of 2023: 10-6

10: Leonard S. Schleifer - $229.95 million

9: Marc Benioff - $234.64 million

8: Reed Hastings -  $252 million

7: Peter Rawlinson - $288 million

6: Jen-Hsun Huang - $292.25 million

Coming in at number 10 we have the CEO of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Leonard Schleifer. The cancer treatment firm was set up in 1988 and is based in Tarrytown, New York, where it also pursued antibody treatment for COVID 19.

Number 9 is occupied by Marc Benioff, the boss of Salesforce, a company which provides customer relationship management, which basically means data analysis which helps businesses interact and serve their customers in the most productive way. Set up in 1999, it is now one of the biggest companies in the world.

Next is Reed Hastings, who is the co-founder and CEO of Netflix. In 1997 he launched the streaming service which back then was a rental-by-mail movie company. Hastings is also known for his philanthropic work, with a lot of money donated to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Hastings retired earlier in the year.

Number 7 is Peter Rawlinson, who is the Chief Executive of Lucid Group, an electric car company. He worked on the Tesla Model S and grew up in South Wales before becoming an engineer. Lucid, however, is actually owned by the Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia, which also owns Newcastle United Football Club.

The last name before the top 5 is Jen-Hsun Huang, a Taiwanese-American and the CEO of NVIDIA Corporation. The company designs GPUs (Graphic Processing Units) and is based in Santa Clara, California. The company was founded in 1993 and now also supplies artificial intelligence software.

Reed Hastings, now retired, has donated huge sums of money to non-profit organisations.

Who is the highest paid CEO in the world?

Now for the real money: the money where the shapes of the numbers cease to hold meaning, where they simply become things that exist, abstract lines that may flicker and change, but will never go away or drop to a level where they actually mean anything. Not that the people in the list above are standing in lines waiting to be handed a potato and a slice of bread, but the following names are the world’s top-tier heavy-hitters. Time for the top 5:

Top 10 highest paid CEOs in the world as of 2023: 5-1

5: Vladimir Tenev - $399 million

4: Jeff Green - $420 million

3: Tim Cook - $484 million

2: Robert Scaringe - $1.15 billion

1: Elon Musk - $11.8 billion

Tenev set up Robinhood Markets, a company which exploded during the COVID pandemic, as it mainly deals with online retail. The Bulgarian-American is only 36-years-old and in 2021, Robinhood went public with a valuation of $32 billion.

The Trade Desk is Jeff Green’s company, which provides data analysis to various companies. the 46-year-old previously worked at Microsoft, the company which swallowed his previous business venture, AdECN.

Seeing the name of Tim Cook at number three will come as a surprise to very few. The CEO of Apple took over after the late Steve Jobs fell ill and takes home, believe it or not, just a small portion of Apple’s fortunes, as the company rakes in billions of dollars every year.

In second place is Robert Scaringe, the founder and CEO or Rivian Automotive, a company that makes electric vehicles. A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he has a doctorate in mechanical engineering and set up Rivian in 2009.

Nobody will be surprised to see Elon Musk at the top of the list. The creator of Tesla, the creator of SpaceX and the destroyer of Twitter is worth over $11 billion and looks set to stay there for the foreseeable future.
