Over seven million recipients across the U.S. are due to get a benefits payment from the Social Security Administration.
Nearly 7.5 million people in the U.S. are set to receive a benefits check from the Social Security Administration (SAA), in what is the final payment on the agency’s distribution schedule for May 2025.
Who will be receiving a benefits check today, May 30?
Today - Friday, May 30 - the SSA is scheduled to send out the latest monthly check to beneficiaries of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.
This is actually next month’s SSI payment - and under normal circumstances, it would be issued on June 1. However, it is being paid out ahead of schedule as June begins on a Sunday. Today is the nearest working day before then.
Who is eligible to receive SSI benefits?
A scheme that currently has just over 7.4 million beneficiaries across the U.S., SSI is aimed at people who have little to no income or resources, and are over 65 or have a disability.
Unlike regular Social Security programs such as retirement benefits, survivor pay and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), eligibility for SSI does not depend on prior payment of Social Security taxes. It is a needs-based, rather than contribution-based, benefit.
How much do SSI beneficiaries receive each month?
Per the latest figures published by the SSA, SSI beneficiaries are paid an average of $717.87 a month.
The SSA says the highest possible SSI figure available to an individual claimant is $967 per month. Eligible couples can get up to $1,450 per month.
The agency also notes that some SSI recipients may be eligible for a supplementary payment from their state. You can find out which states offer this additional money on the SSA website.

Most recipients of retirement, SSDI and survivor checks will be issued their benefits on one of three Wednesdays in June. Their payment day will depend on their date of birth:
Wednesday payment dates in full: June 2025
If born on 1st to 10th of the month: Weds., June 11
If born on 11th to 20th of the month: Weds., June 18
If born on 21st to 31st of the month: Weds., June 25
The three-Wednesdays schedule does not apply to any beneficiaries who started claiming retirement, SSDI or survivor checks before May 1997.
These long-term recipients are scheduled to get their money on Tuesday, June 3, irrespective of their date of birth.
When are you paid if you claim both SSI and regular Social Security?
If you receive both SSI and any of Social Security’s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits, you are due to be paid the former today and the latter on June 3.
